Hi everyone.
I don't know if anyone is going to read this, but I am at my wits' end. I wanted to finally play through this copy of Catechumen that's been sitting on my shelves for years now, but I'm having absolutely no luck at all getting it to work. Whenever I load up the installer, it never does anything and instead just sits there, never installing the game.
Not only that, but on previous installations I have also run into the dreaded No Sword glitch, where the angel at the start does not disappear and give you the sword you need to play the game. I tried to install the patch, but this changed nothing. I am using a 64-bit copy of Windows 10.
So basically, if any of you know how to make this happen, I would like to know how to install and get Catechumen to work on modern Windows machines. This is not only useful here and now, but will definitely be useful in the long run in the context of game preservation. Thank you.

UPDATE: This is for anybody who comes here looking for an answer to the No Sword glitch:
I found my old Catechumen install and did a LOT of troubleshooting to figure out what causes it. The thing I found that finally solved it was peaches_' speedrun of the game, where he said he isolated the problem to framerate, and how the glitch happens when the game is running too fast. Using FRAPS I found out the game's maximum framerate is always 50 FPS, and as long as it's running at that speed and no lower, the No Sword glitch will trigger.
The solution is to force the game to run below 50 FPS, whichever method you choose to do it: Either by CPU throttling or Vsync options. What finally worked for me was a tool called nVidia Profile Inspector, which allows you to set individual graphics options for each app. Just pick Catechumen on the list, go down to "2 - Sync and Refresh", and set the Frame Rate Limiter to anything below 50. In my case, choosing the ~49.1 fps option made it so the No Sword glitch never happened again.

ok I found a good solution to the ever annoying problem of the SWORD glitch I found it shield play Not with the settings and I switch in the settings of the game go to graphics select video driver then apply changes then make sure before u do this u have a save just before u meet I'm guessing ur guardian angel that way u can load it at will but don't save it while he's around just right before u go into whatever room he appears in then switch to software on video driver go to the place where ur angel appears then wait for him to finish encouraging and informing u and disappear and it should work for u and make it work as it should and u get the sword it will b laggy in that setting so just prepare for it speed up the mouse movement if u have to to cope til the angel sequence is done save frequently after having the sword swotch back to direct 3D then bam ur back tin it ao don't forget to set ur mouse speed back to if u changed that lol I learned from another person on this site it's a problem with the frame rate it's to fast so I slow it down ittle work hope this helps god bless have fun sleighing demons and freeing innocents

This is pretty much old news, but i've posted a thread/resource about getting Catechumen to run on modern hardware:
